Curlee M. Ware

Curlee Milton Ware was born March 26th, 1961 in Hennepin County Minnesota.  His parents are Frederick Douglas Ware Sr. and Pocollia (Larkin) Ware.

Curlee lived nearly all of his life in Des Moines, Iowa.  He graduated From East High School.  After graduation he pursued several different career paths, including construction and concrete work, asphalt hauling, and over the road truck driving, among other things.  He worked for Des Moines Asphalt and Paving, Breman Enterprises, Terry’s Quality Concrete, Midwest Ready Mix, and others.

In 1989 he joined the Des Moines Fire Department. Curlee enjoyed being a firefighter and even decided to take swimming lessons so he could serve on the Des Moines Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team.  He was dedicated and proud to be able to serve his community in this capacity. He retired from the Fire Department in 2003 after an on the job injury.

Over his working career he was a member of “The Laborers’ International Union Of North America”,  “The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehouseman and Helpers of America”, and “The International Association of Firefighters”.

In his spare time, Curlee was an avid artist and military model builder.  He also enjoyed off road “four wheeling”, driving country roads listening to music with his family and collecting guns.  After he retired he enjoyed playing flight simulator games, driving his yard tractor, as his body would allow, coaching the elementary school basketball team, spending time with his kids and watching history channel.

Curlee and his former wife Diane Ware were blessed with two children, Jessica Lee Ware, born September 22nd, 1988, and Curlee Joseph (C.J.) Ware, born June 26th, 1996.  Curlee’s children were his world and he lived his life for them, even through the toughest moments.

Curlee earned his wings to a better place on February 11th, 2019, after a long and courageous crusade through years of living with quadriplegia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Douglas Ware, Sr. , his mother Pocollia (Larkin) Ware, sisters Diva E. Drawford and Mary K. Elliott, and brother Frederick Douglas Ware Jr.

He is survived by his children, Jessica Lee Ware and Curlee Joseph (C.J.) Ware, their mother Diane (Barrett)Ware, his sister Tracye (Ike) Brown and sister Marva Howse, along with many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank all of the Health care workers, Nurses and other people that helped Curlee along his journey.  Your service, commitment, and caring is greatly appreciated.
