Sandra Jane Vespestad

Sandra Jane Vespestad, age 67, of Waukee, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2019. Sandra had been battling ovarian cancer for almost 7 months when the good Lord called her home. Per Sandra’s wishes, a private family burial of her ashes will take place at a later date.

Sandra, daughter of Everett and Mary Jane Van Cleave, was born August 23, 1951, in Wakefield, Nebraska. Sandra graduated from Story City High School in 1969. She later continued her education at DMACC where she received her Registered Nursing license. Sandra always had a passion for taking care of others! After several years of hard work in various jobs and raising her young children, she took on a new role as a nurse. She spent the majority of her career working as a nurse on the skilled unit at the Madrid Nursing Home, where she retired in July of 2016.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ron Vespestad, their three children: Angela (Kenny) Rumbaugh, Justin (Kellie) Enderson, Ashley (Eric) Petersen, their 10 grandchildren: Justin (Ashley) Enderson, Dani Enderson, Bree Brown, Samantha Fortner, Brieana Fortner, Lexi Fortner, Landon Fortner, Aliyah Fortner, Nick Petersen, and Briley Petersen, and their 5 great-grandchildren: Ellie Enderson, Kylie Enderson, Lynlie Enderson, Beckett Fortner, and Gunnar Gerjets.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 900 South Warrior Lane, Waukee, IA. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the “Sandra Vespestad Memorial” fund. Sandra felt a very strong desire to help provide food to those in need, especially children! The contributions from the Memorial fund will be used to make donations to several Food Bank of Iowa programs, including the BackPack Program, the School Pantry Program and the Summer Food Service Program.

Online condolences will not publish to our website but will generate an email that is directed to the family.
