Mary L. Jones Williams

On the evening Sunday, September 23, 2018, Mary L. Jones Williams went home to be with the Lord. She was 91 years young.

 

Visitation (10 am) and funeral service (11 am) will be held on Thursday, September 27 at the Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines. Officiating will be given by Mary’s grandson, Reverend, Chad Jones. A light luncheon in Mary’s honor will follow service.

 

Mary is preceded in death by husband (of 43 years), Pete, daughter-in-law, Pam (Leland) and sister, Carmen, mother, Dorris,  father, Ivan, brother-in-law, Nooker (Mable) and brother-in-law, Verne.

 

Her vibrant life will be cherished in the lives of her children: Leland of Houston, TX; Michael (Nancy) of Louisville, KY; and Timothy (Violet) of Des Moines, IA, her grandchildren: Heather (Stan) Whitfield, Ryan Jones and Tori Jones; Kelly (Seth) Bendorf and Chad (Natalie) Jones; Jennifer Jones, Mindy Jones, Kasee (Sean) Kirkpatrick and Betsy (Brandon) Sprenger,  15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchildren along with many of family members and friends.

 

Mary didn’t know a stranger. Her smile welcomed everyone. Her friends and family knew her as kindhearted, caring, compassionate and strong willed. Mary was born and raised in Williams, Iowa and later lived in Des Moines. Mary spent her earlier years camping and traveling.  She spent her golden years as a snow bird in Mission, Texas at Circle T Park. She loved playing cards with her friends and spending quality time with her family. She also enjoy people watching and golfing with her friends.

 

She worked in her home for many years taking care of children (and everyone) and later worked as a manager of Fannie Farmer Candy.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Donations may be sent directly or will be collected Thursday.
