Marian Ballinger

Marian Frances Ballinger, 95, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on November 25, 2018, at Edencrest of River Woods surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd, 3820 S.W.9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coon Rapids, Iowa. For questions or condolences please visit: www.iowafuneralplanning.com. Marian Frances Franz was born on November 19, 1923, in Adair, Iowa. She was the daughter of Alfred and Nellie (Stonebraker) Franz. She graduated from Adair High School with the class of 1941, and then attended AIB in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to David Dudley Ballinger in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, while he was serving in the United States Army. Marian retired after 28 years of faithful service from DECO Engineering in the bookkeeping department. Marian was an active member of the American Legion for many years and worked many long hours at the polling booths during elections.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards at the Southside and Pioneer Columbus Senior Center and with her family. She also enjoyed spelling bees and winning County contest and later at the Iowa State Fair Senior spelling bees.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gene (Judy), Donald, Mike (Linda) and Kent of Des Moines; daughters, Cheryl Green of Florida, Janet (Al) Walker of Osceola, Iowa, Debra Gilchrist of Des Moines, her 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, brother, Lloyd (Betty) Franz.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, David, son, David F. Ballinger, parents, Alfred and Nellie Franz, and siblings, Helen Sartor, Elsie Thomas and Grace Schmeling.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date.
