Louise A. Haney

Louise A. Haney, 63, of Johnston, Iowa passed away February 26 at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, with family by her side, after an eight year battle with lung cancer.

Lou was born March 1, 1954 in Omaha, Nebraska to Arthur and Nancy (Wiederin) McAnany. She married her husband Terry 35 years ago and they raised four children in Johnston. She was employed for many years mostly as a bookkeeper. But the job she enjoyed most was that of homemaker, where her sense of humor, caring nature, and positive attitude made for such a happy household.

An avid reader, she also enjoyed gardening, tv sitcoms, nature documentaries, milky way bars and visiting Estes Park. Though in recent years, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren.

For friends and family, she’ll be remembered by her smile, her laugh, that ability to make one feel welcome, and to brighten their day with her spirit. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her, but her memory will warm their hearts and put smiles on their faces.

She is survived by her husband Terry; sons, Nick (Angela) of Omaha and Kyle of Johnston; daughters, Jill (Chris) Shaw of Urbandale, Iowa and Sarah Groves of Jasper, Arkansas; mother, Nancy McAnany; sisters, Jeanne (Rick) Wright, Eileen (Beth Muessel) Rogers, and Donna (John) Taft; brother, Bill (Nancy) McAnany; grandchildren, Noah Haney and Claire Shaw; in-laws, Terry and Judy Haney;  in addition to many more family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur, and her mother-in-law, Mary Nichol.

The family will receive guests for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 31 in Omaha at The Thompson Center on the UNO Campus from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A spreading of ashes will take place with family in July in Estes Park.

In lieu of flowers, if you’d like to make a donation in Lou’s memory, please consider Planned Parenthood or the National Geographic Society.
