James Hoyt, age 58, of Des Moines, Iowa went on his ‘final fishing trip’ Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life Picnic on Sunday, June 2, 2019, from 2:30 PM to approximately 6:00 PM at Saylorville Lake’s Cherry Glen Campground, Picnic Shelter #2. Memorials may be directed to FaceBook by searching Jim Hoyt.

James Gregory Hoyt was born on January 31, 1961, in Roanoke, Virginia.
He is the youngest son of John R. Hoyt, Sr. and Marjorie Croot Hoyt. The Hoyts moved from Roanoke to Des Moines in 1965. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School.

Jim was blessed by his son, Peter Morton, through marriage to Mercedes Castro in Memphis, Tennessee in May 2007. His passion for culinary arts exploded as he trained under a couple of the very finest chefs in the business, he became a classical chef specializing in French Cuisine and Memphis BBQ.

You could taste the love in his food creations! His favorite hobbies were Fishing & Camping – the great outdoors! He loved to garden, grew his own herbs and vegetables to use in his menu creations, and shared with neighbors. He never met a stranger, easy to talk with, and was a people pleaser. He was an avid music lover, from playing French horn to jamming to Classic Rock.

Jim is survived by his son, Peter Morton of Memphis, his mother, Marjorie C. Hoyt of West Des Moines, brother John R. Hoyt, Jr. of Urbandale, his sisters Daisy Hoyt Ferguson of Phoenix and Deborah L. Hoyt of New York City, three nephews, four nieces, two great nephews, and one great niece.

In Heaven, he has joined his dad, John R. Hoyt, Sr. and his faithful dog, Sandy.
