Zelda Mae Minard was born December 31, 1922 at Snake River Junction near Walla Walla, Washington toElma (Starr) Cooley and Alonzo B. Cooley. She grew up in Morrison, IA with her nine siblings. As a teenager, she joined the circus, traveling with the “Whiteside Troupe” doing acrobatics, trapeze, and tightrope acts, using the stage name “Bonnie Whiteside”.
She married William C. Minard on September 26, 1944. To this union six children were born and five more adopted.
Zelda graduated from West High School in Waterloo, IA in 1963. She worked as a nurse aide at the St. Francis Hospital and in later years as a Coronary Technician at Covenant.
After becoming a widow in 2007, Zelda ended up selling her house and moving into an assisted living facility, the Rose of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Minard; one stillborn son; one infant daughter, Mary Louise Minard; one granddaughter, Wendee Sue Minard; great great grandson Kaleb Burt; adopted son, Bradley Heideman; her parents; four brothers: Harry, Logan, Delmar, and Don Cooley; four sisters: Mary Wical, Doris Nichols, Lula Prescott, and Clara Claire.
Zelda is survived by one sister, Miriam Johnson; two sons: William M. Minard and Richard D. Minard; 2 daughters: Karla Klemensen and Patricia Dirks; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; four adopted children: Romelle Shuman, Sharon Kamp, Sandra Hoskins, Charlene Manley; and several nieces and nephews.
