Wilbur “Smokey” Thomas, Jr.,  67, of Des Moines, died at home on April 11, 2016. A Celebration of Life is pending and will be held at a later date.

Smokey was born March 8, 1949 to Wilbur and Helen (Kerns) Thomas in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised in Des Moines and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his time as a Marine he served in the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his brothers, Anthony Pignori and Eric (Jackie) Rhodes; several nieces and nephews; his dog, China; along with many of his good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and best friend, Mark Thomas, they lived together and soon will be interred together; and his other siblings, Craig, Berry, Charlie, Susan and Shelly.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home or the family. The family would like to especially thank Smokey’s friends and caretakers, Kevin and Jerry along with the VA for all your help and support during this time.
