Thomas D. Marr, Jr.

May 22, 1918 - April 17, 2016

Thomas Davis Marr, Jr. was born May 22, 1918 to Thomas and Ruth (Lindauer) Marr in Keota, Iowa. He died peacefully at home in Windsor Heights, Iowa at the blessed age of 97 on April 17, 2016 after a long struggle with dementia. A funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 22, at Windsor United Methodist Church. The interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Thomas was drafted in 1942 to the military and was honorably discharged in 1946 as Captain from The Army of the United States. While enlisted he was awarded a Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and an European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with a service star. He was one of the earliest members of Windsor United Methodist Church and he retired in 1982 from ABC Retirement. He enjoyed fishing and any athletic sports events, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He traveled the state of Iowa extensively and knew every small town and by-way.

As a product of the depression, he was frugal yet honest, kind and a dignified man. Thomas will be missed by his son, Ronald (Marilyn) Marr; grandchildren, Amanda and Anthony Marr; his niece and nephews; and extended family and friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Marr; his parents; brother, Robert (Betty) Marr; and sister, Arlowyn Loghry.

A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 P.M., Thursday, April 21 at Windsor United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church, Gentiva Home Health Care/Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Special thanks to Gentiva Home Health Care/Hospice and Senior Helpers who cared for Thomas the past several years; and Kelly Hancock, ARNP and the staff of VA Home Base Primary Care for their excellent care of Thomas.
