Steven Herbsleb

Steven James Herbsleb, age 55, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday December 5, 2017, in Weslaco, Texas.  He was born on March 31, 1962, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Donald James and Patricia Ann Barnett Herbsleb.  Steve graduated from Central High School in 1980.  He later attended the University of Northern Iowa.

Steve’s greatest joy in life was being a father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren.  He guided and directed each of them, celebrating their unique accomplishments and patiently teaching them valuable life lessons.   Steve was an avid hockey player throughout his elementary and high school years and passed that love on to his son.  Steve was a gifted carpenter.  He worked a variety of carpentry related industries from selling cabinets, to owning his own counter top business.  In later years Steve became an accomplished Pool Player, attending and placing in state tournaments. Whatever he was doing, Steve maintained a positive attitude.  Steve never met a person he didn’t like.  He had a heart as “big as Texas” and will be missed by all.

Steve is survived by his parents, Don and Pat Herblseb; three children, Heather (Kyle) Maakestad, Haley Herbsleb, and Skyler Herbsleb; two grandsons, Lincoln and Oliver Maakestad; a sister, Tammy (Tim) Sorenson; and a brother, Mark (Paige) Herbsleb.  He was preceded in death by an infant sister.

The funeral will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo on Thursday December 14, at 10:30AM with burial at Garden of Memories to follow.  Visitation and viewing will be on Wednesday, December 13, from 4-7 PM at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories Funeral Home and at the church an hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be directed to the family to be used for a burial marker for Steve.
