Stanley Chaney

Master Sergeant Stanley Chaney, known as “Sarge” to everyone, passed away on April 2, 2018. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Merle Hay Funeral Home.  His committal service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter.

 

He was born December 11, 1928 in Greenwood, Indiana to Arthur and Naomi (Moon) Chaney. A Korean War veteran, he was a member of the elite “Raiders” 14th involved in the Battle of Pork Chop Hill, Heart Break Ridge, Jane Russell Hill, and many others.  In August 1991, he retired from Army Recruiting, having recruited over 700 soldiers into the Army.

 

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann O’Keeffe; and his brother, Bruce Chaney.

 

He is survived by his brothers, Robert and Carey Chaney; sister, Ann Lowery; sons, Sean (Amy) Meusburger and Guy (Cleta) Chaney; daughter, Kaci Rother; and four grandchildren.
