Rose May (Cardamon) Chiodo, 96, passed away at her home on Friday, December 23, 2016 with her family by her side. Rose was born in Des Moines to Nick & Angela Maria Cardamon on September 22, 1920. Rose has been a life long proud resident of Des Moines and the Italian-American Community. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and was a graduate of East High School. On September 10, 1941 she was united in marriage to Frank M. Chiodo. He preceded her in death in 2005. Rose’s greatest joy in life was her Faith and her family.
She is survived by two sons, Ned (Marilyn) & Monsignor Frank, her daughter Mary “Fran” Chiodo, daughter-in -law Rosemary (Louie, dec.). three brothers, Nick (Kathleen,dec.) & William (Anita,dec.) and a sister Carmella (Joe) Yacavona, and sisters-in-law Virginia (Frank, dec.) Cardamon, Anna (Fred, Dec.) Chiodo all of Des Moines. Rose is also survived by eight grandchildren, Frank (Lisa) Chiodo, Lisa (Joe) Standefer, Jeff (Jen) Chiodo, Theresa (Kelly) Forret, David (Lisa) Chiodo, John (Kirsten) Chiodo, Mara Rose Proctor, Joe (Molly Michelfelder) Chiodo, eighteen great-grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. She was preceded by her parents, Nick & Angela Maria (Bonacci) Cardamon, her husband Frank, a son, Louie in 1987, three brothers, Frank, Joe (Josephine), Paul (Opal), brother-in-law Mike (Rose) & sister-in-law Maria Stella (Frank) Marasco.
Rose was a faithful member of the Vittoria Italiana Lodge and once served as the auxiliary’s vice president. She was a member of St. Anthony Altar and Rosary Society, and the Society of Italian Americans. She belonged to Catholic Daughters, and the St. Jude Prayer Group.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Anthony Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 27th at 10:00 am, Visitation will be held at the Tonini Funeral Home on Monday, from 3:00 – 7:00 pm followed immediately by a rosary. A private committal service will be held on Wednesday at the Glendale Cemetery.
