Ronald Lee “Ron” Penning was born June 1, 1943 in Des Plaines, Illinois: the son of Donald and Gladys (Bacon) Penning. He graduated from Waterloo East High School with the class of 1961. During high school Ron played basketball and softball. After graduation, he attended junior college in Casper, Wyoming and played basketball. After junior college, Ron served with the United States Army, being honorably discharged on July 31, 1969. On December 27, 1996, he was united in marriage to Donna Creswell Stoneman in Galena, Illinois. Ron was employed at John Deere, retiring after many years of service. He was the marble champion for Waterloo in 1955. Ron loved fishing, golfing, dogs and wood crafting. The staff at Sunnycrest all loved Ron, and they were also very special to his family.
Ron passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart at the age of 73 from complication of vascular dementia. He is preceded in death by his parents. Ron is survived by his wife Donna of Waterloo; a son Jason (Pam) Penning of O’Fallon, Missouri; a daughter Stephanie (Fred) Kornett of O’Fallon, Illinois; a step-daughter Michelle (Dan) Seeks of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren: Jacob and Jared Penning and Gage Stoneman, Colin and Aidan Seeks and two sisters: Luann (Pat) Murphy and Debbie (Bill) Pichelmann both of Waterloo.

Ron will be missed by all who knew him.
