Robert Edward Vanderlind was born September 21, 1942, in Pontiac, Michigan, son of Edward and Barbara (Wells) Vanderlind. Following graduation from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School he attended the University of Iowa where he met Susan Gadient and the two were married on December 29, 1962, in Davenport. Bob worked for Sears for 31 years in both Sales and Management. The couple made their home in Waterloo where they raised their family and were active members at St. Edward Catholic Church and Columbus High School where he enjoyed serving at the Teens Encounter Christ (T.E.C.) Retreats. Bob retired in July 1998 and they began spending the winter months in Ft Myers/Cape Coral, Florida. Most of all, Bob loved his family and he and Sue celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a Family trip to Disney World accompanied by their four children, their spouses and seven grandchildren. It was one of the highlights of his life!

Bob passed away unexpectedly at the age of 75 on Sunday, January 21, 2018, in Cape Coral Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara; his son, Bobby; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Schneekloth. Bob is survived by his father, Ed (Maxine) Vanderlind of Sarasota, FL; Sue, his wife of 55 years; 4 children: Patrick (Robin) Vanderlind of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Dennis) Pedersen of Rogers, AR, Tim Vanderlind of Cedar Rapids, and Joe (Stefanie) Vanderlind of Dike; his grandchildren: Megan Pedersen, Morgan (Levi) Vanderlind Ryherd, Katie Pedersen, Spencer Vanderlind, Bobby Vanderlind, Collin Vanderlind, and Lauren Vanderlind; 2 sisters: Peggy Schneekloth of Ely, Iowa and Sandy (Mike) Reed of Marion; a sister-in-law, Ruth (Bob) Mccomber; and a brother-in-law Patrick (Bev) Gadient.

Memorials may be directed to St. Edward Catholic Church.
