Richard Tetley

February 26, 1930 - January 31, 2016

Richard “Dick” Tetley, 85, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016. A service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2016 at Brooks South Town Chapel with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens to follow.

Richard Edward Tetley, son of Helen Prusha, was born February 26, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was raised in Omaha and attended Creighton Preparatory High School. He then went on to Missouri and attended seminary school for a short time. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1954 as Staff Sergeant. Richard was a self-employed machinist, also using his occupation to work for AMF and Katecho. He met his one true love, Carma Janice McConnell in Greeley, Colorado. The couple married in 1954 and moved to Des Moines in 1959 where they raised their two children, Margaret and Michael.

Richard enjoyed bowling, jigsaw puzzles and crafting. He was an avid fisherman, fan of the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame. He volunteered as a Little League Coach and for the Girl Scouts. He was a very generous man who will be deeply missed by his family.

Richard is survived by his children, Margaret Kelly of Des Moines, Michael (Pennie) Tetley of Des Moines; grandchildren, Bobbi (Jeff) Kemble of Waukee, Chris (Jessica) Kelly, Ashley and Amber Tetley all of Des Moines; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob (Janette) McConnell of Strausburg, CO ; along with a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carma Janice Tetley and his parents.

A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Brooks South Town Chapel.
