Richard Dubberke

February 12, 1944 - January 22, 2016

Richard (Rick) Eugene Dubberke, 71, of Polk City passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 1 at New Hope Assembly of God in Urbandale.

Rick was born on February 12, 1944 to Raymond and Bertha (Hetland) Dubberke in Eldora, Iowa. He was a graduate of Radcliffe High School. Rick was retired from Des Moines School District transportation department where he was a bus driver.

Rick was a huge fan of Iowa State basketball and football. He also liked following the Hawkeyes, Drake, and of course, the Chicago Cubs. Rick has also been a loyal follower of the Urbandale J-Hawks sports programs. He shared a love for the sport of gymnastics. On January 1, 2016, the Dubberke family opened Infinity Gymnastics Academy in Urbandale. He will be missed by many of the gymnastics families.

Rick loved the Iowa State Fair. He attended all day, every day. He especially enjoyed the livestock shows, a tribute to his upbringing in the small rural town of Radcliffe. He enjoyed car shows and driving his vintage Corvette. On Friday and Saturday nights of racing season you could always find Rick attending car races at the Iowa State Fairgrounds and the Boone Speedway.

Rick is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gail; children, Michael Dubberke of Clive, Benjamin Dubberke of Polk City, Jessica Dubberke of Schaumburg, IL, and Heather (Rigo) Osorio of Des Moines; and sister, Lois Boyer of Clinton, Iowa.

Rick leaves behind many friends. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a man that could strike up a conversation with anyone and lend them a listening ear.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
