Richard “Dick” Masimore

June 25, 1926 - July 2, 2016

Richard “Dick” Nelson Masimore, 90, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away from complications of pneumonia and heart failure on July 2, 2016.

Dick was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and the King of Puns. He was determined to make it to his 90th birthday and he did. His last words consisted of cracking a joke that made those around him laugh out loud, which showed his positive attitude to the end.

Dick was a proud Veteran of WWII and Purple Heart recipient while serving in the regular Army from 1944-1946. From 1947-1950, he joined the United States Naval Reserve and he then went on to serve in the Army National Guard for 40 years, while working as an insurance executive for Preferred Risk. Dick was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Notre Dame and the Drake Bulldogs. He served as a Drake Relays Official from 1969-2009.

Dick will be missed by his wife, Helen; children, Rick Masimore, Steve (Audrey) Masimore, Melissa (Dick) Irvine, Chris (Julie) Masimore and Julie (Al) Dorenkamp; stepchildren, Steven Morlan, Dan Morlan and Sue (Scott) Blackford; his many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Harvey (Janet) Masimore; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Mary Masimore; his sister, Katy Hodge; and his brothers, Kenneth and Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Friday, July 8 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
