Ralph R. Noel, Jr.

Ralph R. Noel, Jr., 87, went home to be with his Savior on April 30, 2017.  A funeral service in his honor will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 beginning at 11:00 am at the Brooks South Town Chapel, 7601 Fleur Dr in Des Moines.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until service time.  Burial will follow at the St. Charles Cemetery.

Ralph was born September 8, 1929 in Trenton, Missouri to Ralph R. Noel Sr. and Louise (Noel) Collins.  He served in the Air Force and, upon his return from the service, met Marilyn Johnson.  He and Marilyn were united in marriage on September 29, 1952 and made their home together in Norwalk, Iowa.  They had been married 59 years at the time of her death.

Ralph worked many jobs during his lifetime and ended his career at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines as president of the AFGE Union from which he retired in 1997.  Ralph loved sports and coached and encouraged many young men and women in baseball and basketball in his community.

Ralph’s greatest love was by far his grandkids:  Hannah, Zeb, Sarah, Abby, Beka, Shaun and Sydney. His grandkids were the light of his life, and he traveled many miles and spent many hours watching them participate in all their activities.  He was a constant source of love and support and will be greatly missed!

Ralph is survived by his children Linda (Brian) Slycord and Randy (Angie) Noel; seven grandchildren: Hannah (Ryan) Grassly, Zeb, Sarah, Abby and Beka Noel and Shaun and Sydney Slycord; a sister Pat Lathrum of St. Charles, and brothers Jack (Carolyn) Foreman of Oklahoma City, OK and Clifford Collins of St. Charles.  He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, an infant daughter Brenda, his parents, his brother Robert Donalson and his sister Martha Lambert; his brother in laws Johnny Lathrum and Eugene Johnson and sister in laws Cathie Collins and Evelyn Johnson.
