Pastor Robert Deugan

November 16, 1945 - June 25, 2016

With his dear wife Jeanne by his side, Robert Deugan, 70, peacefully left this earth and entered heaven on June 25, 2016. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 5 at Urbandale Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to service. An interment will follow at the St. Charles Cemetery.

Robert was born on November 16, 1945 to George and Marguerite (Cross) Deugan in Hendricks County, Indiana.  He graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in June 1964.  He was united in marriage with Jeanne G. Marquardt at Temple Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska on December 20, 1969.  Together they have had an active life of serving the Lord in pastorates and as missionaries.

To this union of marriage, God blessed Robert & Jeanne with eight children over a space of twenty one years.  Edwin was their first born followed by Charlene, then Joshua, Paul, Seán, Sara, Matthew and finally Kieran.

Robert took his first church in N. Peoria, IL in January 1972, after his graduation from Faith Baptist Bible College the previous May.  He served in Alta Gardens Baptist Church for three years before joining Baptist Mid-Missions in July 1975 to serve as a missionary to Ireland.  Upon retiring from the mission in 1990, Robert worked with Best Buy in Des Moines, IA  and Denver, CO.   In December 1997, he accepted the call to pastor the First Summit Baptist Church of Charlotteville, NY, and served for five years before moving to Massena, NY where he served for the next five years.  In July 2008 he began the pastoral ministry in Parkers Prairie, MN where he served until December 2014.  Robert & Jeanne then moved to Clive, IA so that they might be close to children and grandchildren.  Robert took a job with Chick-fil-A, where he served until winter of 2016.

Robert was preceded in death by his son, Seán on January 25, 2009; his parents, George A. and Marguerite; four brothers, George A. Jr., Jack, Norman, and John; and three sisters, Marjorie Ann, Catherine, and Ruth.

He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-six and a half years, Jeanne; their children, Edwin, Charlene (Dan) Wade, Joshua (Gloria), Paul (Emily), Sara, Matthew (Kathryn) and Kieran (Melinda); his dearly loved grandchildren, Norah, Lannah, Owen, Eilah, Sarah (Wade), Ellery, Liam, Róisín, and Kiera (Deugan); his brothers, Bill, Ron and Earl; sisters, Sue and Beverly; and many nephews and nieces.
