Opal Irene Brooks, 81, of Mitchellville, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Mitchellville Care Center.
Opal is survived by her three children Richard (Betty) Holland of Des Moines, Jim (Marsha) Brooks of Kingsport, TN, and Joanne (Gary) Newcomer of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren Daniel (Ana Ruth) Brooks, Jonathan Brooks, Melissa Brooks, and Michael (Rhoda) Brooks; step grandchild Brandy Allen; sister Jeanette Hassis of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her previous spouses Harold Holland and Albert Brooks, parents, oldest grandson Richard Holland II, sister Juanita Brobst, and two brothers Robert and Johnny Jackson.
Opal was born on October 25, 1935 in East Peru, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Cleo Jackson. She worked as a CNA.
Opal became a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Des Moines, Iowa in the mid 60s and never lost her love for the Lord and her church family.
Opal enjoyed spending the day fishing and being outdoors. She liked anything beautiful that sparkled and red was her favorite color. She had a sweet tooth for Pepsi Cola and ice cream and loved to work with people. Above all, spending time with her family and her relationship with the Lord meant the most to her.
