Nick D. Courbat

Nick D. Courbat was born on May 26, 1953 to Kenneth and Della Mae (Colburn) Courbat in Waverly, Iowa. Nick grew up in Hudson where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1971. He began working for the Waterloo Fire Department on January 29, 1979 and worked as a Fire Engineer until his retirement on September 1, 2008. During his time in the fire department, he also worked as a general contractor at his own business: Courbat Construction. Nick married Robin Wumkes on November 21, 1973 and they spent 25 years together before divorcing. The two welcomed three children into their lives during their time together. He was a true outdoorsman enjoying hunting, boating, and fishing. He also enjoyed working with his hands and building for his family. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan. Nick was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and did not miss an opportunity to share their accomplishments.
Nick D. Courbat died on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Unity Point Hospital- Allen Memorial at the age of 64. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother: James Courbat. He is survived by his son: Shaun (Stacey) Courbat of Cedar Falls; two daughters: Shelby (Jay) Schalk of Davenport, and Sasha (Nick) Aarsen of Cedar falls; two brothers: Frank (Reda) Courbat of Fairbank, and Doug Courbat of Colorado; two sisters: Nancy(Barry) Lefstad of Vinton, and Teresa (Gary) Scharnhorst of Hudson. Nick Courbat is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jakob, Chase, Cade, Nicholas, Reese, Rhett, and Cal.
Gifts/donations are unnecessary,but can be made to the Nick Courbat Estate.
