Melinda Wiedmann

October 20, 1955 - May 7, 2016

Melinda Wiedmann, 60, of West Des Moines died Saturday morning May 7, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice In Des Moines.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday,  May 19 in the Chapel at the Lutheran Church of Hope, West Des Moines. The service will be followed by a dessert, coffee and cake reception there.

Mary Melinda Wiedmann was born on October 20, 1955 to William Anton and JoAnn Marjorie Wiedmann (Keating) in Des Moines. Melinda was raised in West Des Moines and lived most of her life there. She attended schools at Sacred Heart, Valley High School and Des Moines Area Community College.  Her love of people and sociable nature led her to careers centered around food, home, and heath care, first as a waitress in the Younkers Tea Room, then manager of the Younker’s restaurant at Southridge, food and fine furniture sales in Des Moines, and finally medical transcription. Her next aspiration was to become a hospice volunteer.

She will be remembered by friends and family for her infectious laugh, sharp wit, and the loving care she gave her father during his long illness.  She enjoyed the simple pleasures:  a chat on the phone,  a fun meal shared with friends, some time in her garden, and perhaps most of all her little dog Gizzy.

Melinda is survived by her extended family, her bothers, Mike and Mark; as well as nieces, a nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her family is deeply thankful  for the outstanding care given to her by the Oncology and Hematology Center at Broadlawns, UnityPoint at Home, UnityPoint Hospice, and Taylor House Hospice.  At the risk of omission, they can’t be named individually, but without exception all were all loving, skilled, and simply remarkable people.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her family for a fund in her name.
