Mary Ann Novak was born on July 23, 1954, in Waterloo, the daughter of George and Rebecca (Sellers) Harrison.  She graduated from North Tama High School in 1972.  On April 27, 1973, Mary was united in marriage to John Novak at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer.  Mary worked in the kitchen at North Tama schools, was a dispatcher for Randolph’s, and was the club house manager at the Traer Golf Course for 28 years.  She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the Traer Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered for many community organizations, especially the Traer Fire Department.  Mary was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved to be the tailgating hostess for football games.  She also enjoyed golfing with the Wednesday Ladies Golf Bags, bowling with the Bowling Bags, playing cards, reading, canning, gardening, and spending time with her family.  Mary died at the age of 62 on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, following a two-year battle with cancer.  She was preceded in death by her father and a brother-in-law, Ron Novak.  Mary is survived by her husband; her mother, Rebecca Harrison of Traer;  two daughters, Angela (Kurt) Weidemann of Hawkeye and Sarah Novak of Traer; three grandsons, Keegan, Quinton, and Nathan Weidemann; two brothers-in-law, Tom (Nikki) Novak of Toledo and Bob Novak of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Anita (Dennis) Bohnstengel of Rollingstone, Minnesota.  Mary was able to help as many as eight people by donating her pretty blue eyes to the Iowa Lion’s Eye Bank. Please direct memorials to Mary’s family.
