Marlys Bolin

August 18, 1941 - January 12, 2017

Marlys Junne Bolin was born on August 18, 1941, in New Hartford, the daughter of Marvin and Amanda (Rand) Wertjes. She attended school in New Hartford and Cedar Falls. On October 24, 1964, Marlys was united in marriage to Bruce Bolin in Preston, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Cedar Falls before moving to Dysart in 1972. Marlys was the former owner of Wertjes Uniforms in Cedar Falls, purchasing the business from her parents in 1985. She was also a cashier at area supermarkets in Cedar Falls, was an Avon Representative in Dysart for several years, and volunteered for Cedar Valley Hospice. Marlys’ favorite jobs in life were being a wife to her wonderful, soulmate, husband, mother to her dear children, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved everyone dearly. She also enjoyed entertaining family and friends with her cooking and baking, her backyard flowers, birds from her sunroom, and most of all, family visits. Marlys died at the age of 75 on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 18, 2007 (her birthday); two brothers, Marvin Wertjes, Jr. and Marlowe Wertjes; and a son, Todd Bolin. Marlys is survived by three children, Kevin (Christie) Bolin of Reinbeck, Michael “Mike” Bolin of Dysart, and Michele “Sam” (Rick Streat, Jr.) Bolin of Dysart; a sister, Margena (Mary Wankowicz) Voigt of Dysart; two sisters in law, Vivian Wertjes of Shawnee, Kansas and Shirley Bolin of Cedar Falls; a brother in law, Floyd (Sharon) Bolin of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place in Dysart Cemetery.
