Marjorie “Ruth” Merryman was born on August 16, 1920, in Portland Township Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa, daughter of Walter and Bessie (Mains) Beard. She graduated from Nora Springs High School and went on to Hamilton Business College. On April 10, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage to Jessie “Sid” Merryman in Webster City. They traveled all over the United States. Ruth worked at Black’s and then at Donaldson’s. She loved being active in the church and listening to Southern gospel music. Ruth also enjoyed playing cards, taking care of her roses and irises, but she especially loved being around her family.
On Thursday, May 11, 2017, Ruth passed away at the age of 96 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brothers: Harry, Foster, and Robert; her son-in-law, Jerry Degenstein; and grandson-in-law, David Crow. Ruth is survived by her son, David (Karen) Merryman of Kimberling City, MO; her daughter, Judy Degenstein of Cedar Falls, IA; six grandchildren: Cindy (Mike) Behrends, Sandy Crow, Kathy Cantrell, Dawn Merryman, Michael (Melanie) Merryman, and Brian (Audrey) Merryman; twelve great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren.
