Marianne Stinson

Marianne Katherine Stinson was born on October 16, 1923, as the 3rd of 8 children, to Joseph E and Katherine M (Boyle) George. She attended St. Anthony grade school and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy, both in Des Moines. After graduation, Marianne worked as a welder for Solars Aircraft as part of the war effort. On May 17, 1947 Marianne married I.H. “Shorty” Stinson. She retired as Secretary to the Chief of Staff at Des Moines V.A. Hospital. She had superb secretarial skills including: shorthand, typing, grammar, and spelling. Marianne enjoyed traveling, Starcraft Camping Club, was an avid Cubs fan, and most importantly, she enjoyed visiting with her family and friends.

Marianne passed away on December 2, 2017 at the age of 94. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 10AM at All Saints Catholic Church: 650 NE 52nd Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 5-8PM, at Merle Hay Funeral Home: 4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines. She will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Left to cherish her memory include her children: Kathy (Stephen) Perrin, Johnny (Paula) Stinson, Phil (Gloria) Stinson; grandchildren: Justin Stinson, Kevin (Anne) Burnight, Ryan (Jessica Kobrock) Stinson, Brent Stinson, Kyle Stinson and Joe Stinson; step-grandchildren: Matt (Ann) Perrin, Monica Perrin and Lindsay Dameron; 13 great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law: Vicki and Jackie Stinson; siblings: Pat (Patricia) George, Lorraine Cuciat; and sisters-in-law: Mary and Rosa George. She was preceded in death by her husband: Shorty; children: Greg, Steven, and Scott Stinson; granddaughter: Jessica Stinson; and siblings: Joe II, Louis, John, Paul and Loretta George

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Croix Hospice or to the family for a future donation of their choice.
