Margaret Helene Keen Baker was born on August 19, 1920, in Maneta, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (Eggert) Keen. She was raised in Dysart and graduated from Dysart High School in 1938. Margaret then attended Pitzie’s Beauty School and opened the Dysart Beauty Shop. She married Harold Baker on September 20, 1940, in Lancaster, Missouri. To this union, four children were born. Margaret worked as a secretary for the Fayette County Department of Agriculture, then moved to Waterloo where she worked at Allen Hospital. In 1961, they moved to Dysart where Margaret worked for Duane Heller and then opened the Dysart Beauty Shop in her home. In 1971, Margaret and Harold divorced. She also worked for Amana Refrigeration, Sunrise Hill in Traer, and Sunnycrest Nursing Center. She was married to Ervin Luze for years and later divorced. She retired from Amana and continued to operate her beauty shop until she retired in 2005. Margaret died on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the age of 96, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kathy; a sister, Elizabeth; a brother in infancy; one grandchild; and three great grandchildren. Margaret is survived by a son, David (Lana) Baker of Bulverde, Texas; two daughters, Annette (Neil) Petersen of Dysart and Debra Baker of Dysart; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 15 great great grandchildren.
