Lois “Jean” Henderson (1926-2017)
Waterloo—Jean Henderson, 90, of Waterloo, died October 30, at Rosewood Estate.
She was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Waterloo, daughter of Clifford and Grace Dryden.
Jean graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1945. She attended East High School her sophomore and junior years. She met Howard Dale Henderson, the love of her life, after WWII while attending Iowa State Teachers College. They were married on April 3, 1947, in Waterloo. He preceded her in death, April 6, 2016.
Jean and Howard moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois in 1973 and returned to Waterloo upon retiring in 1990. She was a member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church. Jean flourished as a corporate wife, truly enjoyed her circle of friends and was a wonderful stay-at-home mom and beloved grandmother.
Survived by: two daughters, Sue (Wayne) Vantluka of LaGrange, IL and Jane (Stan) Allen of Omaha; a son Kirk (Terri) of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Heidi (Chris) Wilson of Ankeny; Amy (Jeff) Douglas, Brian (Sarahjoy) Allen, Kimberly (Michael) Pecha, all of Omaha; and eight great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a daughter, Julie Ann Henderson and three sisters, Muriel Dryden, Marjorie Reinhold and Pauline Lyon.
Services: 2p.m. Friday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, with visitation at 1pm before the service.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
