Leonard Fred Vorba was born on August 15, 1919, in Traer, the son of Fred and Agnes (Konicek) Vorba. He grew up in Traer and attended country school Crystal #1 and graduated from Traer High School in 1936. Leonard served his country in the Air Force during World War II. He flew 35 missions with the Fifteenth Air Force over the Southern European Theatre of Operation. On November 21, 1959, Leonard was united in marriage to Lois Creswell in Waterloo. Leonard farmed in the Traer area until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church, Traer American Legion, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Fifteenth Air Force Association, and Farm Bureau. He also served as a weather observer for the National Weather Service for 25 years. Leonard died at the age of 97 on Friday, September 23, 2016, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sisters, Lillian Barber and Maxine Kvidera Hartmann. Leonard is survived by a daughter, Ruth Johnson of Belmond; a granddaughter, Erin Johnson of Belmond; and a brother, Harold Vorba of Traer.
Military rites will be conducted by the Traer American Legion.
