Joyce Brown

Joyce Graham Brown, 81, of West Des Moines, Iowa, died on August 6, 2017. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 26th, 11:00am, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. There will be a luncheon at the church following the service where the family will greet friends.
Born on November 16, 1935 in Colfax, Iowa, Joyce was the daughter of Charles and Gladys (Ferguson) Graham. She graduated from Colfax High School then earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree from Drake University. Joyce taught history at East High School, then was a counselor at DMACC for many years, retiring in 1998. Her favorite hobby was genealogy and she traveled extensively in both the US and England pursuing her family history. When Joyce ran out of findable ancestors, she worked finding ancestors for other people. She volunteered at the Iowa Genealogical Society where she loved helping solve ancestral mysteries. She also dedicated extensive time to supporting members of her church and others in the community when they needed a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. One of Joyce’s greatest joys was spending time with her four grandchildren and her new great grandson.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Ginger (Virginia) Brown (Rick Tacy) of Virginia and Joanna Glenn (Barry) of Texas; her grandchildren, Joshua Dennison (Lauren), Joel Dennison, and Bethany Dennison of Texas, and Graham Parvinkarimi of Virginia; and her great grandchild, Jonah Kepple Dennison of Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church or the Iowa Genealogical Society.
