Joyce Armstrong, 81, passed away on April 28, 2016 at the Madrid Home in Madrid, IA after a long battle with lung disease. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, May 12 at the Madrid Home Chapel in Madrid, IA.
Joyce Diane Whisler was born on August 16, 1934 to Paul F. and Alberta C. (Reeves) Whisler at the King’s Daughters Hospital in Perry, Iowa. She was raised on a farm near Panora, IA but spent most of her adult life in New Mexico and Arizona where she met and married her husband, Gray Armstrong. She owned and operated a shop selling Indian Artifacts, ran a restaurant and worked in food service. In 2005, she returned to Iowa to spend time with her sisters and other family.
She will be missed by her sons, Jim (Elaine) of Flagstaff, AZ, Paul (Julie) of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Sam, Madelyn, Gabrielle, Taylor, Zoe and Bethany; sister, Lois (Jack) Pompe of Slater, IA; cousins, Norma Welsh of Ankeny, IA, Earl (Joann) Culver of Boone, IA and Rita Whisler-Revell of Salt Lake City, UT; along with many other extended family members, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gray; brothers, Robert and Darrell; sister, Phyllis; and brother-in-law, Don Stiles.
Memorials may be directed to the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa or the Animal Rescue League of Boone, Iowa.
