John Randall “Randy” Hershley of Clive died on April 1, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born January 19, 1946, in Montrose, South Dakota, son of Francis and Ruth (Gapp) Hershley of Montrose, SD.

He attended school in Montrose where he graduated from high school in 1964.  Randy enlisted in the United States Marine Corp from 1964 to 1968, during which time he served one tour in Vietnam.  He spent his work career in banking and leasing until he retired in 2008.  He then proudly spent his time volunteering at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.  Throughout his life, Randy enjoyed sports, music, family, and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa on April 6, 2016, at 12:30.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Potthoff of Van Meter; Kori (John) Maggart of Urbandale; Grandchildren, Abbey, Austin, Alec, and Anthony Potthoff; Lauryn and Landon Maggart; Brothers, Francis G. Hershley, Alan Hershley, and Gary D. Hershley; sister, Sandy K. James; several nieces and nephews.

Randy’s family would like to thank the VA Hospital hospice staff for their compassionate care.
