Jerry Paul Fuller, 58 of Urbandale, died on Thursday, December 22 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on December 10, 1958 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Emerson & Marjorie Fuller. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1977. In 1980 he married Marcy Gerard. They later divorced.
Jerry served as a coach for his son Josh’s AAU baseball team for many years, including two years when they qualified for the National AAU tournament.
An avid wrestling fan, Jerry travelled with friends each year to attend the NCAA National Wrestling Tournament. He was a loyal friend who could be counted on to provide a teasing remark or stubborn advice from time to time. He loved the New York Yankees from the first time he heard of Mickey Mantle, and he shared that love with both his Dad and his son.
Jerry was well known in construction circles, and was a superintendent at Venter-Spooner construction at the time of his death. He was often heard to say, “All caught up. All done,” and he taught many people to carry on the work that he dedicated his life to.
Survivors include his son Joshua Fuller of Sioux Falls, SD and Josh’s son Carson; his mother Margie Fuller of Fort Dodge; sister Jeanine Nemitz (Bob) also of Fort Dodge; ex-wife Marcy Gerard of Waukee, and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his father Emerson in 2011.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. Visitation with the family present will take place one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
