James Edward Ocheltree was born April 15, 1949, in Dysart, Iowa, son of Duane “Eddie” and Kathryn (Pippert) Ocheltree. He was raised and attended school in Dysart.  Following High School Jim attended UNI and the University of Iowa then returned to Dysart to begin work as a truck driver.  On March 20, 1982, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Wulf in Long Grove, Iowa, to whom he was introduced by a mutual friend.  Jim worked for Elliott Brothers Truck Line, Inc. first as a truck driver earning his way up to the position of President of the company, which he held until his death.  Jim also served on the Board of Directors for the First Security State Bank of Waterloo and Cedar Falls. He spent most of his lifetime in Dysart and loved working in his back yard, which was also known as his “arboretum”.  Iowa Hawkeye Football was the one thing that could entice Jim away from the home he loved.  Surely, no greater fan ever lived than this 40 year season ticket holder.  Only his beloved family and grandchildren outranked the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Jim passed away at the age of 67 years at home on Sunday, June 26, 2016, following a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Gloria Albert.  Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Bonnie; 2 sons, Dan (Lindsey) Ocheltree of Dysart and Tom (Laura Kaminsky) Ocheltree of Chicago; 3 grandchildren: Hayden, Kinnick and Hawk Ocheltree of Dysart; and a sister, Vickie (Larry) Holst of Vinton.

Memorials may be directed to Dysart Ambulance Service, Dysart Fire Department or the Dysart Tree Board.
