James Ronald Brucker passed away peacefully on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Bickford Senior Living in West Des Moines, Iowa. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., Friday, February 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, West Des Moines, IA. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, IA.
James was born May 12, 1924, in Elgin, IL to Carl and Cecil Brucker. He married Mary Agnes Grosserode on July 3, 1949 in Lincoln, NE.
James graduated with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University in Chicago and worked as an engineer and quality control manager for Delevan Manufacturing Company in West Des Moines, IA for more than 30 years. Prior to that, he worked at Elgin Machine Works, Elgin Street Sweeper Company, and Elgin Watch Company.
He and Mary Agnes had 5 children, John, Susan, Rick, Jeff and Greg. They all attended 12 or more years of Catholic school. James was also very active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church serving as an usher and a lector. He was active on the diocesan board to build a new Dowling High School, active in the Cursillo movement, the Serra Club and was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered as President of the Delevan Credit Union, at the Chamber of Commerce of West Des Moines, and Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He and his wife, Mary Agnes traveled extensively to Ireland and Germany to visit third and fourth cousins.
James is survived by his children, John Millbrook of Baltimore, MD, Susan (Gil) Wilson of Austin, TX, Rick (Judy) Brucker of Urbandale, IA, Jeff (Lisa) Brucker of Oconomowoc, WI, and Greg (Amy) Brucker of Ankeny, IA; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; along with his sister, Barbara Gieske. He was preceded into heaven by his wife, Mary Agnes; his sister, Mary Ellen Hagan; and his grandson, Jamey Brucker.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Thursday, February 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines, IA.
