Howard served in the 106th and 29th Infantry Divisions during World War II. He was commissioned while serving with the 29th Division in the European Theater. Howard received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Iowa in 1948, graduating with honors. He was eternally grateful for the benefits of the WWII G.I. Bill of Rights which provided the opportunity for a college education. On April 3, 1947, Howard was married to Lois Jean Dryden in Waterloo. He worked in public accounting and passed the CPA exam in 1950, at which time he became associated with Chamberlain Corp. He also enjoyed golf, bridge, watching the Cubs, Hawkeyes and Bears on TV and wintering in Inverness, Fla. Howard cherished childhood memories of spending summers on the farms of his grandparents, aunts and uncles of Bradgate.
