Hazel Parkin

March 16, 1926 - March 12, 2016

Hazel Lorraine Parkin, 89, died of complications from an ongoing illness on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Anderson, Missouri. A visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 12pm, Saturday, March 19 at Brooks South Town Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA with a graveside service to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hazel’s life.
Hazel was born on March 16, 1926 in the Village of Mountain Lake, Minnesota to parents, John H. Thiessen and Elizabeth Ewert. Hazel worked at Commercial Bag Co. for more than 20 yrs.
Hazel was a great family women and a loving mother. She married John Thomas Parkin and the couple had five children together. She enjoyed playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles. Her family and friends will always remember her as a dedicated wife and a hard working woman.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, John Parkin, Sr.; grandson, Todd Hatfield; and her parents, John Thiessen and Elizabeth Ewert.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Virginia Hatfield; sons, John Parkin, Sr., Charles Parkin, Neal Parkin, and Patrick Parkin; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Thiessen; and sister, Evelyn Veldy.
The family would like to thank everyone for their support and kind words. Flowers may be sent to Brooks South Town Chapel at Sunset prior to the start of the visitation.
