Harry A. Doerfler

Harry Doerfler, 91, passed away at Deerfield Retirement Community on November 13, 2017. He was born on January 17, 1926 in El Reno, OK to Ray and Apolona Doerfler. His family moved to Amarillo, TX where he graduated from high school and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the 106th Infantry Div., 424 Regiment WWII “Battle of the Bulge.” In 2009, Harry returned to Germany to retrace his footsteps with his family by his side. He graduated from the University of Denver in Denver, CO. On April 19, 1952, he married Betty J. Pzinski in Denver. In 1962, Harry joined Olinetti Underwood and moved to Ogden, UT for 1 year before moving to Des Moines, IA. In 1970, he went into his own business, representing industrial principals until he retired.
A proud accomplishment for Harry, was getting 3 hole-in-ones; even getting one on the same course and day as his wife. He had been a member of the Des Moines Country Club since 1969. Harry was a fan of not just golf, but all sports. He attended 2 World Series Baseball games. In the winter months, he and Betty stayed in Naples-Ft. Myers Florida. Harry was blessed with a full and great life.
Harry is survived by his wife of 65 years: Betty; sons: George (Britta) and Stephen (Laura); grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Austin (Carly), Ella, Ryan; Shauna (Ren), Jude, Abby, Penny; Morgan (Chris); Garrett (Emily), Aiden, Roman; Pierce (Kaitlin), Lucy, Jack, Violet; Drew (Alyssa), Truman; Jared (Emily); Jocelyn and Jenna. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church: 1627 Grand Ave., West Des Moines. Visitation will be held the night prior, from 4:30-6:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Brooks Funeral Care: 7975 University Blvd., Clive.
The family would like to thank the staff and medical professionals at Deerfield Health Care, Iowa Methodist West, and Unity Point for all of your TLC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Sacred Heart Church.
