Greg “Hawg Dawg” Loy was born November 15, 1952, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Frank and Mary (VanNice) Loy. He spent his early years in Waterloo but moved to Cedar Rapids around the age of 10. Greg graduated from Prairie High School, then entered the United States Air Force. Following his honorable discharge from service, he began a lifelong career as an over the road truck driver. In 1997, Greg met Kari Ann O’Connor and the two were united in marriage on August 29, 1998.

Greg has many loves in life, but nothing ranked higher than his friends and family. In his spare time, he enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles and classic cars, but especially Chevy Corvettes. Greg loved any Corvette from any year and knew them from bumper to bumper. He also loved music and polishing metal items to a beautiful sheen. He was a fan of the Pittsburg Steelers and the Iowa Hawkeyes and a lifelong member of the Evansdale AMVETS.

Greg passed away unexpectedly at the age of 64 years at Allen Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a cousin/brother, Denny Loy. Greg is survived by his wife, Kari; stepson, Erick Baxter of Waterloo; stepdaughter, Kelsey Baxter of Waterloo; granddaughter, MaKaylee Baxter of Evansdale; sister, Lynda (John) Hart of Waterloo; niece, Lisa (Larry) Klodt of Waterloo; great-niece, Lynlee Klodt of Waterloo; 3 cousin/brothers, Jesse, Mike, & Pat Loy; his beloved labs, Bailey and Maddie; and many other family and friends.

Please let your clothing for the service be as colorful and relaxed as Greg’s lifestyle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
