George Peters

August 19, 1932 - December 2, 2016

George Ronald Peters, 84, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, December 2, 2016, surrounded by family members. A celebration of his life will begin with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m., on December 6, 2016, at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
He was born in Atlantic, Iowa, to Elma Dale and Dale Henry Peters on August 19, 1932. He lived in southeastern Iowa in his early years and ended his high school education in Tingley, Iowa. He worked at Maytag following graduation and later served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He worked at Western Electric, Iowa Asbestos Company, a drywall company, and several construction companies. He was the owner and operator of a laundromat and dry cleaners in Jefferson and two laundromat and dry cleaners in Des Moines. He ended his vocation with ownership of A-Kleen Sweep Vacuum Center in West Des Moines.
George enjoyed the great outdoors and especially loved going to the Boundary Waters to camp, hike and boat with his children. He and his wife, Velma, enjoyed 13 wonderful cruises since his retirement. But, his biggest enjoyment was spending time with family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
George is survived by his wife Velma of 57 years; children: Kevin Peters of Norwalk, Kurtis (Sheri) Peters of West Des Moines, and Kimberly (Sean) Lewis of Waukee. Also left to grieve the loss of their Grandpa are Callie Peters (fiance Kolin Ross); Amanda (Ben) Sieve; Jennifer Peters; Hailey, Dalton, and Brody Lewis; and great grandchildren, Ashlee and Zayne Peters.
George was preceded in death by grandson, Loren Peters, and brother, Guy Peters.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines or UnityPoint Hospice.
