Genevieve “Gen” Iezek was born on March 18, 1922, in rural Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of James and Mary (Ribby) Wacha. She attended school in Toledo. On January 4, 1941, she was united in marriage to Frank Iezek in Belle Plaine, Iowa. They farmed all their married lives in Black Hawk and Tama Counties until their retirement in 1981. Gen died at the age of 95 on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Bernice Higginbotham, Lucille Jacobsen, Evelyn Bidwell, and Marie Wacha; and a daughter-in-law, Beulah Iezek. Gen is survived by three daughters, Carol (Gene) Smith of Pleasant Hill, Mary (Chuck) Cranston of Dysart, and Connie Forbes of Kearney, Missouri; two sons, Tom Iezek of Voorhies and Mark (Tom Burger) Iezek, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two brothers, James Wacha and Roger (Joanne) Wacha; ten grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
The visitation will be on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 4 to 7 PM at the Overton Funeral Home in Dysart. The funeral will be on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. Burial will follow at Dysart Cemetery. Please direct memorials to the family.
