Pat Courtney passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in Carlisle, IA at the age of 93. He was born in Springfield, MO on July 11, 1923 and grew up in Seminole, OK. He moved to Iowa in 1943 where he met and married his wife, Leila. They were married for 68 years before she passed in 2012.
Although Pat requested only a graveside service, inclement weather will not allow it. There will be a visitation Saturday, December 17, 2017, from 12:00 to 2:00 at Tonini Funeral Home, 2135 S.W. 9th, Des Moines, IA, with a short committal service at 2:00. Following, there will be a private burial at the Carlisle Cemetery.
Throughout his entire life, Pat collected, played and followed Country Music, and made a lot of friends in the music industry. He took photographs for many years at the KRNT Theater country shows for his friend Smokey Smith. He retired in 1980 after 36 years as an over-the-road truck driver. Pat had been a resident of Carlisle, IA since 1959.
Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Leila, five sisters and two brothers. He is survived by daughters Gloria (Clark) Tripp, Sharon (Ken) Janes, Judy (Terry) Robison, a son, Frank (Sue) Courtney, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren.
