Francis Marion Kreb was born August 1, 1926 on a rural farm in Dunkerton, IA, son of John G. and Florence (Hites) Kreb. He graduated from Dunkerton High School and went on to graduate from Iowa State with a Bachelor’s Degree. Francis served in Japan in the Army during the Korean War. On June 25, 1978, Francis was united in marriage with Janet Hill Shollenbarger at Valley View Baptist Church of Cedar Falls. He was a lifelong farmer. Francis loved reading, classical music, and traveling – he had visited all of the continental united states and had been through Europe numerous times while visiting family in Germany. He was also a proud member of the German American Club, the Cedar Valley Garden Club, participated in a ping pong club, and was a charter member of the Iowa State University Northeast Iowa Experimental Farms and the Benington Boys Breakfast Club.
Francis died at the age of 90 on Tuesday November 8, 2016 at Sartori Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Kreb; four sisters: Ruth Alcorn, Esther Kreb, Mary Cripps, Lucy Kreb; and a nephew Jim Cripps. He is survived by his wife Janet; his two children: Stan (Leslie) Shollenbarger of Ashland, MO and Brett (Kristi) Shollenbarger of Denver, IA; five grandchildren: Molly, Marissa, Megan, Hunter, and Darwin; a nephew, John Cripps; and brother-in-law, Russell Cripps.
