Francis Elliott

November 10, 1937 - February 4, 2016

Francis Marion Elliott was born on November 10, 1937, in Prairie Home, Missouri, the son of Mervin and Mary (Moore) Elliott. Francis grew up and attended schools in Prairie Home. He served his county in the United States Marines from 1959 to 1965. On January 3, 1961, Francis was united in marriage to Mary Louise Caldwell. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marines, Francis worked at John Deere. He then farmed for many years with Don Brandt and retired as a welder with John Rice. Francis was a longtime member of the Dysart American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, bowling, and family vacations. Francis died at the age of 78 on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Donald and Allen; two brothers, Sonny and Benny; and a grandson, Anthony. Francis is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Elliott of Dysart; a son, Kenneth (Heidi) Elliott of Traer; two brothers, Johnnie (Ann) Elliott of California, Missouri and Eddie (Betty) Elliott of Clarksburg, Missouri; a sister, Joyce (Paul) Fischer of California, Missouri; two grandson, Leroy and Jeffrey; two step grandchildren; Tabitha and Austin; three great grandchildren, Toby, James, and Leah; and many nieces and nephews.

Military rites will be conducted by the Dysart American Legion.
