Floyd F. Erichsen

Floyd F. Erichsen, passed away Sunday morning, January 14, 2018. He was born July 24, 1928 to Henry and Erma (Braasch) Erichsen, in Rembrandt, IA. He graduated from Everly High School in 1947. He married Flora Allene Burch on December 10, 1949. Floyd and Allene farmed for many years before moving to an acreage in Sioux Rapids, IA, where Floyd managed the Standard Oil Station. From there, they moved to Storm Lake, IA, where Floyd worked in the maintenance department at Buena Vista College. In 1964, Floyd and Allene moved to Urbandale, IA, where Floyd took the position of Stationary Engineer with Brown Hotel and Garage. A few years later he started his own business, Total Maintenance Service. He retired from Interstate Assurance in 1994.
Floyd and Allene joined St. Stephen Church in Urbandale in 1963, and it has been their church home since. Floyd loved spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and dining on Jimmy John’s sandwiches.
Floyd is survived by his soulmate and spouse of 68 years: Allene; children: Sharon K. (Bill) Schaffer, Cindy L. (Van) Taylor, Sandra J. (Tom) Perkins, Randall R. Erichsen, Laurie S. (James) Blake; and brother: Darrel D. (Darlene) Erichsen. Floyd and Allene were blessed with 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild (and counting) and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. Stephen Church (3510 72nd St., Urbandale) at 11AM. The family will greet visitors 1 hour prior to the service.
