Erroll Allen

February 7, 1918 - January 8, 2018

Erroll J. Allen was born on February 7, 1918, in Garrison, Iowa, the son of Victor and Myrtle (Fike) Allen. Erroll attended school in Dinsdale and Traer. He began working at AWE in 1933. He worked his way up and eventually became a part owner in 1946. Erroll served his country in the United States Army from 1946 to 1947 and was stationed in Korea. After his honorable discharge, he came back to Traer to run AWE. He sold the business in 1972 and continued to work until his retirement in 2006. On May 7, 1977, Erroll was united in marriage to Sharon Lau at the United Methodist Church in Gladbrook. Erroll was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church and the Traer American Legion. He loved playing cards, woodworking, fixing machinery, mushroom hunting, hiking, and fishing. Erroll died at the age of 99 on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Marty Allen; a brother, Victor Allen Jr; and three sisters, Charlotte Stoakes, Ruth Focht, and Grace Dobson. Erroll is survived by his wife and a daughter, Autumn (Bill) Dodd.

The funeral will be on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at 10:30 am at the Traer United Methodist Church. Visitation will be for an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Buckingham Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Traer American Legion.
