Edwin “Ed” L. Baker, age 85, of Des Moines, IA, died on April 26, 2016 at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System Hospice Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Monday, May 9, 2016 at Merle Hay Funeral Home with visitation from 12-1 P.M. preceding the funeral. An inurnment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens.
Ed was born on August 31, 1930 in Audubon, IA to Charlie Baker and Dorothy (Nelson) Baker. Ed joined the military after High School and was very proud to have served in both the Navy and Army. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW.
After the Service, Ed spent time in California where he met his future wife, Josephine Tessier. Josephine and Ed were married on August 8, 1959. Ed and Josephine spent part of their married life in California and Missouri before returning to Iowa. Ed worked for Charter Hospital in the Maintenance and Security Department, while also painting houses and working for 22 years for the Medical Examiner’s Office.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and playing with his two loving cats, Kate and Ally.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Baker; his parents, Charlie and Dorothy Baker; his brother, Paul Baker; and his twin sister, Vivian Morgan.
Ed is survived by 1 Sister-in-law; 9 nieces and nephews; and various friends and neighbors.
