Edna Langham

Edna Marie (DeVault) Langham (96 years and 11 months), of Des Moines, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at HCI Kavanagh Hospice House.

Edna was born May 1, 1921 in Van Cleave, IA to Travis and Mabel (Bollman) DeVault. She grew up in Rhodes, IA, where she attended school, played on the girls’ basketball team, and graduated in 1938. Edna moved to Des Moines in 1951 and raised her family here. She worked as a nurse’s aide and later was employed by Stone Container Corporation for 30 years until retiring in 1987.

Edna was passionate for flower gardening, decorating, sewing, cooking, watching basketball and maintaining her home. Her strong faith, compassion, and positive attitude were always present and apparent in how she lived her life. Her greatest joy was her family, and they always came first.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Crystal Canny of Conroe, TX, Verna (Martin) Frederickson of West Des Moines, LaDonna Langham of Willis TX, and Tim (Patti) Langham of Des Moines; grandchildren: Marcy Frederickson of Des Moines, Jean (Louis) Kresienski of Magnolia, TX, Cheri (David) Akbari of Marietta, GA, Chad (Nicole) Frederickson of Lone Tree, CO, Donald (Mary) Canny of Conroe, TX, Eddie (Nicole) Canny of Conroe, TX, John (Kelli) Canny of Spring, TX, and Tim Jr. (Casie Curtis) Langham of Des Moines; 15 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Rhoda (Paul) Walker, Goldie (Howard) Eldridge; brothers: Harvey (Zerelda) DeVault, Eliza (Elinor) DeVault, August (Betty) DeVault, Ralph (Ordelle) DeVault, Vern (Freda) DeVault; and son-in-law, Robert Canny.

In accordance with Edna’s wishes, private services will be held. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
