Dwight Eugene Kent, 87, of Des Moines, died peacefully Friday, March 3, 2017 at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, at Brooks South Town Chapel at 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines. Burial at Sunset Memorial Garden. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Brooks South Town Chapel.
Dwight is survived by his three children Rebecca (Larry) Krouch, Carole Craft, and Brian (Julie) Kent, all of Des Moines; five grandchildren Brandon (Tiffany) Krouch, Lindsay (Matt) Raymond, Kyle Craft, Steve Kent, Shaun (Rachel) Kent; 5 great-grandchildren and one on the way; a sister Vera (Lew) Manor of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; parents; two brothers, and five sisters.
Dwight was born on March 21, 1929 in Lucas County, the son of William and Laura Mundell Kent. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Ruby Maxine Elwood on February 20, 1953. For 32 years he was a devoted employee of Firestone Tire, retiring in 1985.
Dwight will be remembered for his skills as a handy man, a jack of all trades, and a hard worker. He was a NASCAR fan, always cheering for Dale Earnhardt. He enjoyed league bowling with Ruby, his sister, and Lew and time spent on motorcycle trips with Ruby traveling around the Midwest. Above all, time with the grandkids and great-grandkids was his favorite.
