Dr. Bob Steele

February 21, 1945 - March 17, 2018

Dr. Bob L. Steele, 73, passed away at Bishop-Drumm Retirement Center on March 17, 2018. He was born in Kirksville, MO on February 21, 1945 to Cecil & Reva (Daniels) Steele.
Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy (Zeigler) Steele; his three daughters, Keri Steele of Altoona IA; Koni Steele and husband John Deeth and their two sons Hayden and Ethan Cox, of Iowa City IA; and Lori Steele and husband Mickey Cook and their son Owen of Nichols IA; and his sister, Sandra Steele, of Hot Springs AR.

Bob graduated from Kirksville High School, and he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Business Education from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville Mo.

Bob was proud to be a lifelong educator! He served as teacher and principal at Wyaconda MO; principal in Oxford-Junction and in Bennett IA; principal and superintendent at Lost Nation; superintendent at Clear Creek and Clear Creek-Amana; and his final educational position was with the AEA. He retired in June 2002, from his position as Chief Administrator of Green Valley Area Education Agency, in Creston IA, after working for 32 years in the field of education in Missouri and Iowa.

While working full-time as a school administrator, Bob also earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northeast Missouri State University, a Specialist’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Iowa. Bob was also a Mason, and was Worshipful Master in Kirksville Lodge #15 from 2008-2009.

Upon retirement, Bob and Judy moved back to their hometown of Kirksville MO. Bob and Judy spent 13 years in his favorite place, their home in the woods outside of Kirksville. He loved spending time with his grandsons, completing home projects, planting trees and flowers, and taking care of a wide assortment of animals.

Bob and Judy moved back to Iowa three years ago due to health reasons. They lived with their daughter Keri until last year when their health needs increased. The Steele Family is grateful to the caring and dedicated healthcare staff that supported our family. A special thank you to the staff at Right at Home, Courtyard Estates, and Bishop-Drumm. They recognized Bob’s wonderful personality and sense of humor, and they were a great audience whenever he wanted to sing and dance.
